Shinde Steers Clear Of Fighting Factions

Politics of Himachal is in seismic tremors due to infighting between groups reportedly led by Chief Minister and party president with CM calling the shots. It seems there is widely shared feeling amongst Congress men that Virbhadra Singh is the most popular face of the party which can fetch votes in next assembly elections. Such Virbhadra bhagats think he should get command of the party also to ensure return of Congress to power. Obviously it amounts to removing the present leader of the party which is opposed by the other faction. Already fragmentation of the party groups was noted by workers and public when only five ministers went to Delhi to support Chief Minister when rest were enjoying birth day party of its transport minister. Major Mankotia who has been removed from the official position in the government is running down the CM with his old and new corruption charges, political observers point out. No one seems to take it seriously since Major had made it an issue while releasing a tape in previous elections but later compromised with CM and joined the government. It is now a common talk of town that he is blaming CM only after having good time for four years and now when he is out he is cribbing. But in any case the mudslinging value also keeps him relevant to the media. Shinde has recently taken over the responsibility to over see Himachal Congress affairs and is talking smoothly to both factions after announcing that no change is anticipated in the party or the government. Public is at loss to understand if both fighting leaders will continue but should patch up is mantra, then why indulge in such dirty linen washing in streets, political observers point out. Whether both factions will hold each other hand and patch up or not is yet to be seen but in the meantime Shinde has witnessed free entertainment.
