Ranji Trophy Matches At Dharamshala

hpca groundDomestic cricket is well known with Ranji Trophy in India, which gives excitement to the cricket players. This competition gives them a chance to prove their mettle in their home grounds. Cricketers across the length and breadth of India will display all the fine virtues of sport as they once again are taking part in the 84-year-old Ranji Trophy competition. Himachal Pradesh is once again hosting the Ranji matches. Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala will host matches under Ranji trophy this year too. The first match is being played between Himachal and Punjab under Group D at HPCA. The second match here would witness Himachal and Goa taking on each other from October 14-19 and Himachal will face Chhattisgarh in third match from November 9-12. An HPCA official told that Himachal Pradesh cricket players were trained by Ashish Nehra for this year and he expects better performance by Himachali cricketers. This year, the Ranji Trophy has been divided into four groups based on ‘average points for each of the teams over previous three years’. Himachal Pradesh is in Group D with Chhattisgarh, Goa, Punjab, Services, Bengal and Vidarbha.

Himachali Athletes Shine in Asian Championship

htwHimachali athlete Bheesham Singh brought laurels to the country and state by winning one gold and one silver medal in the Asian Master Athletics Championship held at Shanghai. In discuss throw event, he clinched a gold medal, which was a proud moment for the entire Indian team. He won silver medal in javelin throw. Other players of team India also played well. Another Himachali Chandra Dev Thakur from Shoghi, Shimla clinched 8th position in steeplechase event and he also stood on 9th spot in 10, 000 metre race. Jeet Ram, who currently works in Himachal Pradesh secretariat bagged 11th position in 5,000 metre race event. Sukhram from Arki stood on 5th position in 10, 000 metres race whereas, he secured 6th spot in 5, 000 metres race. Ramesh Kumar Walia of Sundernagar clinched 12th and 11 spots in discuss throw and javelin throw events, respectively.

Sanjay Kumar Appointed

FIBA Referee

htwSanjay Kumar from district Hamirpur has been appointed an official for International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Sanjay scored 47 marks out of 50 in the selection test for the post and also got first rank in all India. From 2007 to until now he has been performing his duties as national basketball referee. Currently, he is posted at GSSS, Jhiralari in Hamirpur. Thakur would be referee for Under-16 Asia Basketball Championship to be held in Bengaluru from October 22 to 28. Sanjay Thakur has many achievements as player of basketball. He had played many national basketball championships and also trained many basketball players in the state.
