The road to allot land for the proposed bulk drugs park in industrial area Nalagarh is finally clear. The Revenue Department has transferred 663 beeghas of land in the name of Industries Department for the purpose. Notably, it was only after one and a half years of announcement that bulk drug park achieved success in getting land. About 663.11 beeghas of land has been selected in Mauja Dadi Harnam Gagguwal, Nikkuwal, Mandayarpur and Bela for establishment of bulk drug park.

The Industries Department has got the approval letter for the same from Deputy Secretary Revenue Department Praveen Kumar. Actually, the industries department had identified land for bulk drug park much earlier, but because of delay in transferring the land in name of industries department, the whole project was stuck. However now after transference of land, industries department has started the process of sending proposal of establishing bulk drug park in Nalagarh to Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.

The union government has a plan of allocating Rs. 200 crore for establishment of bulk drug park. The Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Ananth Kumar has announced to establish bulk drug park in Nalgarh during his Baddi visit on April 27, 2016. The state government thereafter directed industries department to identify land for the project in BBN area. Acting on state government’s directions, the industries department identified 663 beeghas of land in Kirpalpur and Majholi panchayat near Nalagarh. Now this part of land has been transferred on the name of industries department. The figures reveals that India imports its majority of bulk drugs from China while dug industries department situated in Himachal Pradesh are importing 90% of bulk drugs from China.

Active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) worth 3.9 billion dollar rupees was imported from China, Germany, US and Japan in 2014-15. Out of it 3.3 billion dollar worth API (63.3%) was imported from China alone. To counter this effect, the union government is planning to establish bulk drugs industries in India. The proposed bulk drug park in Nalgarh is a part of this initiative.

Employment Opportunities

The bulk drugs industry share in Himachal Pradesh is mere two percent. Morepen drugs industry is the major contributor in this direction.
