Himachal is reeling under a debt liability of Rs 46,500 crore at present and the new BJP government intends to take initiatives to make this hilly state debt free. This has been indicated by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur who assured that possibilities will be explored so that Himachal becomes debt free. He has also accused the previous Congress government of burdening people of Himachal with a loan liability. However Chief Minister asserted that there would be no dearth of funds to carry out developmental activities for the welfare of all sections of the society. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured in this regard, he said.

Elated over the emphatic mandate given by electorate to the BJP in Himachal assembly elections, Jai Ram Thakur also claimed that the party’s government would also break the tradition wherein the ruling party is thrown out of the power after every five years in Himachal. The BJP will not only work for next five years but also for the second term after its current tenure, he said during a public meeting in Bilaspur.

Chief Minister also received overwhelming reception during his first visit to Mandi district after formation of the BJP government in this hilly state. Addressing a public meeting at Mandi’s Seri Manch, Jai Ram Thakur said that previous Congress government indulged in foundation stone laying spree without making budgetary provisions for various developmental schemes. “We will be accused of indulging in vendetta politics if the government blocks such schemes. The government will not do so but make budgetary provisions for all such schemes,” assured Jai Ram Thakur.
