The dream of having a spice park in Himachal Pradesh has totally been shattered now. The Union Government has declined to establish spice park in Himachal Pradesh. Foundation stone of the spice park was laid when Congress party was in power in Centre. The state government had to provide land for the spice park. But now Union Government has closed the scheme under which spice park was to be established. The state government has got the information about same recently. Notably, the spice park was proposed to be established at Nadaun in Hamirpur district under Assistance to States for Development of Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities (ASIDE) Scheme. The then Commerce and Industries Minister Anand Sharma laid the foundation of spice park in Himachal Pradesh. The Congress state party president Sukhvinder Singh played an important role to realise the dream project on the ground. The state government was even ready to give land for the dream project. However the same could not be identified, as some complications related to forestland were posing obstacles for finalisation of the land.       The Centre has now closed ASIDE scheme under which spice park was proposed to be established. The realisation of this project in Hamirpur district could have provided relief to a big section. Here spices are being produced on a large scale and establishment of spice park in Hamirpur district could have provided them the ready made market. It could have created a large number of self employment opportunities. These are some dreams that Congress government had shown to people, but now they can never be realised on ground.

The state government in a written information told in vidhan sabha that Commerce and Industry Ministry inaugurated the spice park on March 5, 2014 through video conferencing. The union government has ended ASIDE scheme, after which Spice Board under Commerce Ministry has expressed inability to establish spice park in Nadaun. As a result this dream project has come to its end.
