NEWSHailing from Sarkaghat in Mandi district, Prafull Sharma had shown exemplary presence of mind and courage to save lives of many children. A student of Lord Convent School, Sarkaghat, Prafull had exhibited bravery during school’s educational tour to Dharamshala on December 23, 2015. While returning back to Sarkaghat, the school bus stopped at Dharampur and the driver went to respond to nature’s call. As the vehicle was standing on a slope, it suddenly started moving backward down the hill. Prafaull who was sitting on the bus along with his friends did not panic but exhibited exemplary presence of mind to tackle the situation. Sensing great danger, the school students were terrified and started crying. In the midst of such a scenario, Prafull showed courage and was able to reach driver’s seat. He applied breaks and thus averted a big tragedy. For his brave effort, Prafull is also one of 25 children from different parts of the country who have been selected for Indian Council for Child Welfare’s (ICCW) National Bravery Awards to be presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 23. Prafull, a student of Class VIII, was also given Bravery Award by Ayurveda Minister Karan Singh last year. Social Justice & Empowerment Minister Dhani Ram Shandil had also honured him. Prafull’s father Naresh Bhardwaj is a teacher and mother Anu Bala is a housewife. He has brought laurels to Himachal by showing courage and finding a place in the National Bravery Awards list.
