Himachali Women Win Handball Gold

htwHimachal’s women handball team once again put the state on the top after winning gold medal in the Shaheed Amandeep Memorial Handball Championship held at Morinda in Punjab. Punjab team was favorite to lift the trophy but it was Himachal team that proved everybody wrong and thrashed the hosts in final match by 24-20. Right from the beginning of the championship, Himachal and Punjab teams were performing extremely well. Himachal team too defeated big teams like Chandigarh and Amritsar in league matches. The team first defeated Chandigarh team by a huge margin of 18-9. Then it was Amritsar which faced failure after Himachali women thrashed them by 19-0. In the semifinal match, Himachal team emerged victorious against Punjabi University, Patiala. Though, the match ended in a draw, Himachal having more points advanced to the finals. In the final match, Himachal team played well and emerged victorious.

Three Medals For Himachal In Taekwondo

htwHimachali girls secured three medals in the National Taekwondo Championship organised for the first time by Indian Women Olympic Association. Players form 17 states participated in this championship held at New Pubic School, Sector-8 Chandigarh. Taekwondo players of Legends Martial Arts Academy, Baddi represented Himachal in this championship. Silver medal came from brilliant Sushma Singhin 49 kg weight category. She showed fantastic skills but could only manage to win a silver medal. Dil Kumari and Priyam Bhandari won bronze medals in 36 kg and 59 kg weight categories, respectively. Mmartial arts players of Legends Martial Arts Academy had also displayed their extraordinary skills in a championship held last year in Dharamshala.

Himachali Teams For Junior Federation Kabaddi Cup

Himachal’s girls are ready to prove their mettle in the Junior Federation Kabaddi Cup to be held in Uttar Pradesh from January 27 to January 30, 2017. For the first time, Himachali girls would be a part of this event, whereas, in the boys category, the team has been finalised. Both (girls and boys) teams have been selected after their performance in the 43rd Junior National Kabaddi Championship held at Vadodara in Gujarat last month. In that championship, Himachali girls team had won silver medal while boys clinched bronze medal. For the upcoming Kabaddi Federation Cup, both the teams would remain same as they were in the Junior National Kabaddi Championship. Training camp for this event would be oragnised for girls and boys teams in Bilaspur from January 21 to January 24. The team will leave for Uttar Pradesh on January 25. Top eight teams of the national kabaddi championship will participate in Federation Kabaddi Cup.
