Umesh Uttam ChauhanEducation is the best earning that can neither be stolen nor it reduces on spending. But an analysis of educational conditions in present context reveals that government educational institutes are losing dominance it once commanded in older times. Students of private schools shine in board exams merit list every year for which the students, their parents and teachers deserves all appreciation. However the condition of government schools is appalling in this perspective.

The situation can be well gauged from the fact that in the merit list of 10th class board exam results, only one student from about 2500 government schools succeeded to find a place in merit list containing as much as 33 students. The poor results of government educational institutes can be attributed to the fact that teaching posts of major subjects remain vacant here all across the year. In fact in some of the schools teachers have to prepare necessary posts and salary bills too due to lack of clerical staff, which hampers teaching process. The grading system initiated by the government which bars from failing students up to class eighth also lead to degradation of educational standard. Besides this teachers deployment in Vidhan Sabha, Lok Sabha and other local bodies elections and responsibility in populations census etc also affects the studies of students badly. The government however now provides facilities like smart classroom, free uniform, free mid-day meal etc. But the government is 15 to 20 years late in this direction also. The state government this year has earmarked maximum budget for education. But such is the condition that admission in some of the government schools is almost negligible. The government is aware of the reason as to why strength is depleting fast in government schools. But hardly any attention is put toward it. Does the responsibility of government finishes after earmarking budget? Who will appoint teachers in schools? Who will transfer teachers stuck at one place for many years to remote places where students are available but teachers are missing?

However situation still can be improved by undertaking few steps. First of all government should adopt transparency in appointment of teachers. Second ensure that educational institute does not become a battle ground of politics. Ensure every facility that is required for teaching learning process. Parents role also become important here as they should encourage their kids to take admission in government institutes. Especially those parents who themselves are government teachers. Why should the common people believe government system when government teachers themselves does not have faith on government schools? The government should now focus on providing quality education. Opening new schools and colleges at every place in order to increase quantity will neither benefit teachers nor students. Regular appointments of teachers should be done and temporary arrangement through Para, PTA or SMC route should be avoided so as to restore lost glory of government educational institutes.
