Raids On Corruption Bastions Stirs Political Fears

While old cases pertaining to Chief Minister in the court are attracting attention, there are continuing raids on many corruption citadels in and around the state. There was relief for the CM as he was granted bail although his passport was impounded and security obtained. This provided an opportunity for him to meet the high command and get their nod to canceling of organisational elections that were being insisted by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Not only this, CM wanted Sukhu to be replaced with another young person. He might not have succeeded in this effort but he will certainly get his demand conceded soon knowing his past record, political observers feel. Strangely there is abundant demand for the younger faces in the political field. Himachal This Week surveys both for the BJP and Congress point out this dire need as 83% voters have voted for a new CM face in the BJP whereas 68% have voted for a new CM face in Congres party.

While the BJP has enough young talent including the state party president Satpal Satti,  Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur, former minister Jairam Thakur and Ajay Jamwal and others. the BJP has a system of choosing candidate post election and will not announce the future CM before election to select on consensus later. The Congress is rather short of ripe talent in younger candidates, The highest rated amongst capable young person would be Asha Kumari and after her Punjab win she is getting high rating in the Himachal politics, political observers point out.

It is likely that she may take up the post of state party president to steer clear the party, they add, pointing that other young candidates could be Sudhir Sharma though his stature might be still in the rising stage andand if the choice is open to a bit older people on border line it could be Thakur Kaul Singh. In any case the Congress is still unclear on the likely choice of the high command. While raids might continue, the politics will take time to warm up till the time elections are announced.
