htwRamesh Thakur, a resident of Tara Devi in Shimla has set a unique example for others to follow. When everyone is busy to accumulate luxurious items in this materialistic world, Ramesh has made social service his prime objective. He has donated books worth Rs. 1 lakh to Himachali students to impart the knowledge of dev sanskriti and to make them understand the real meaning of devbhoomi. Interesting part is that he has managed the money by selling his Maruti 800 car. Ramesh Thakur himself is associated with dev sanskriti and is chief priest of famous Srishti Mata Temple, Tara Devi in Shimla. The construction work of this temple began in 2000 and was completed by 2003. Ramesh started his journey as a fitter in Public Works Department in 1980 and retired from Grade-1 post in April 2017. He has a deep knowledge of all types of ved puraan, number astrology and meditation. This is why he has put in efforts to connect Himachali youth with dev sanskriti. Ramesh said that today is the time when youth are more closer to internet than books. Despite living in Himachal, young generation does not have basic knowledge about their kul dev, gram dev and other deities of Himachal Pradesh. They are totally ignorant of this information. My interest to spread this knowledge and information to every Himachali youth and to inspire them to connect with books inspired me to take this step, said Ramesh. Ramesh Thakur purchased 250 copies of S.R. Harnot’s recently published ‘Himachal Pradesh Mandir aur Lokshrutian’ book and distributed four copies each in 26 senior secondary schools in Solan and Shimla districts besides government libraries. He said that his initiative could inculcate book reading habit among students besides imparting real and true information about history and culture of hill state. He said that people are not aware of history of the temple or know about deity, they worship daily.
