Tourism Stuck In Traffic Jams

This is regarding Himachal This Week’s cover story of July 1, 2017, “Tourism Stuck In Traffic Jams”. Himachal witnessed unpredented influx of tourists this season due to prevailing conditions in Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand. Every tourist destination was jam packed with visitors that also brought to the fore certain infrastructural shortcomings. As most of the roads are unable to accomodate such a heavy inflow of vehicles, frequent traffic jams were a comon site at most of the destinations. Similar was the condition of hotels that recorded one hundred percent occupancy during peak season. The government must plan schemes to cope up with the increasing number of  visitors by strengthening infrastructural facilities. It will also boost hospitality sector thus strengthening state’s economy.

Amarnath Yatra Lesson

The attack on Amaranath yatris is highly condemnable. Secutity measures were beefed up keeping in view the threat perception on Amarnath yatra. It is a matter of serious concern if terrorist succeeded in their nefarious designs. The incident is also a lesson for the system that should be improved in future.
