Vidya Stokes ko Gussa Kyon aata hai

Himachal This Week

The Congress seems eternally embroiled in one conflict or the other. Recently both factions of Chief Minister and Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president had finished their arsenal in the presence of state party affairs in charge Sushil Kumar Shinde. Shinde had come to bring unity amongst Congress leaders but left reportedly without any gains.

In the meantime there is internal fireworks time and again. Latest storm in the tea cup was Vidya Stokes’s gussa on transfer of her Horticulture Secretary without her consent. She was so upset with Chief Minister on this transgression of protocol that she reportedly threatened to boycott attending the session. She is senior most Congress leader and this was bound to create a very embarrassing situation which would have given enough fodder to the opposition, political observers point out.

When she did not reach the assembly, many intermediary worked to run between Virbhadra Singh and her. Ultimately Chief Minister agreed to withdraw the transfer and that placated her to come for the session. There were reportedly angry exchange of words between the two but later the situation cooled down. Such skirmishes show that party is brittle and no sign of unity infused by Shinde is visible, political observers add.

In our survey also it seemed that there is virtually a vacillating public opinion about the future leader of the party as only 52% have voted for Virbhadra to lead the party in election. Although it is still majority of votes in the opinions, yet the normal guess that he would get massive majority has turned a vain hope.

Assembly session has gone waste with so many walkouts and delay in conducting the legislature business. In fact there is high time to consider how to save legislature’s time and money on conducting precious business by restraining the quantum of protest hours.

The BJP too is facing cold war and there has been a spate of letters from Anurag Thakur to claim credit in founding of the AIIMS type institution which J.P. Nadda seems to take it in his fold, both as Central minister and leader of Bilaspur where the location is being established.
