Himachal state is small enough to have a population of 69 lakh out of which almost 10% are unemployed. Despite this on scale of happiness, it had a quiet and composed living. Recently the failure of police in keeping up law and order and two tragic rape case of girls have shaken the state’s quietude and there are demonstration in different place in the state.

Kotkhai, a sleepy town on the outskirts of Shimla city became the centre of rape and murder of a young girl’s distressing story. No political person played a sound role to fight for humane angle of the case. High ups are reportedly involved as the poor family was taken for granted being little vocal for getting justice. In this noise another noisy path yatra of Congress proved a lame duck. It was a challenge to the BJP but on the ground the party organization under the leadership of Sukhvinder Singh proved damp squib.

President of the Congress party was busy in mending fences due to open challenge by the Chief Minister to have free say in allocation of tickets for the forthcoming elections in the state. In fact Virbhadra Singh right from the beginning has been asking for a complete control of the electoral strategy which is also understandable as only one leader can fight the war, political observers point out. He threw such gauntlet earlier too in 2012 and won his point. This time too he is repeating his performance. He has high support amongst the electorate and party which will make him indispensable for the victory in the face of difficult fight.

Chief Minister went even to offer that he will rather not fight future election if his demand is not fulfilled, No doubt he cannot be ignored especially when even the senior leader Kaul Singh had to give in earlier in such a situation. The scales are weighted in favour of Chief Minister. And like Punjab where Amarinder Singh too had his say a decision of Himachal might be taken. The ball is in the court of high command in Delhi where Ahmed Patel has been entrusted with the task to sort out the riddle; Who will lead Congress in next election.
