Dharamshala, Una Overall Champions

Heena, Ayush declared best athletes in women and men categories

Heena of PG Government Degree College, Dharamshala and Ayush of Government Degree College, Una were declared best athletes in women and men categories in Inter College Athletics Championship held at Dharamshala. Dharamshala College also lifted overall championship trophy in women’s section whereas Hamirpur college secured runner up position. Una college was declared overall champion in men’s section whereas Dharamshala team secured runner up position. In various competitions held on the concluding day of the championship, Chandan of Bhatoli college in triple jump, Sumit of Sundernagar in hammer throw and Una college in relay race secured top positions. Director Physical Education, Himachal Pradesh University Dr. Surender Sharma distributed prizes to the winners of the championship.

5000 metres (W): Heena of Dharamshala college in 17:47:10 minutes

10, 000 metres (W): Heena of Dharamshala college in 36:59:72 minutes

5000 metres  (M): Sawan of Jogindernagar college in 14:59:84

Ajay Shines In India’s Title Win

Lead by Ajay Thakur, India defeated arch rivals Pakistan to win Asian Kabaddi Championship held in Iran. In the final, Indian team prevailed over Pakistan by 36-22 thus winning by a huge margin of 14 points. Indian team performed exceedingly well from group matches to the final. Earlier, India had defeated South Korea by 45-29 whereas Pakistan had entered the final by upsetting Iran team by 28-24 in semi final matches. The final match of Asian Kabaddi Championship proved to be a one sided affair with India walking away with the title. People of Dabhota village near Nalagarh celebrated the victory as Indian team was lead by local boy Ajay Thakur. However, Kabaddi lovers were disappointed as there was no live coverage of the Asian Kabaddi Championship final match.

Women Team Also Wins

Indian Women also defeated South Korea in the final to win Asian Kabaddi Championship. They defeated South Korea by 42- 20 in the final match. Indian women had won four league matches before overpowering Sri Lanka women team in the semi final to reach the final.  Indian women were leading 19-12 at half way stage but scored 23 more points to make it a one side affair. Two Himachali kabaddi players, Priyanka Negi and Kavita performed excellently to ensure India’s victory.

Himachali Girl Wins Gold In International Yogasan Competition

Himachali girl Tamanna Sharma won two medals, including one gold medal in International Yogasan competition held in Karnataka. The competition, organised by Asian Yoga Federation attracted participants from Somalia, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Iran, Yemen and Ethiopia. As Tamanna brought laurels for the state, Akshay Garg and Abhay Garg also found a place in the merit by securing fifth and sixth places. Tamanna is first Himachali who has won a gold medal in an international competition.

HP Draws Ranji Match With Vidarbha

Group D Ranji cricket match between Himachal Pradesh and Vidarbha ended in a draw. However, Vidarbha walked away with three points whereas Himachal Pradesh got only one point from the match. After winning the toss at VCA ground, Nagpur, Vidarbha put Himachal Pradesh into batting. Himachal scored 353 runs in the first innings with useful contributions from S.L. Verma (66), R.R. Dhawan (71) and A.P. Vashisth (69) as R.N. Gurbani scalped six wickets for 113 runs.  In reply, Vidarbha scored 456 runs thus taking 103 runs lead on the basis of first innings. It contained two centuries from FY Fazal (206) and SR Ramswamy (115) with R.R. Dhawan picking up four wickets for Himachal Pradesh.Himachal Pradesh scored 323 runs for eight declared in the second innings with a magnificent century from N.R. Gangta who scored unbeaten 100.
