The state’s ups and downs this week

Forest Land In Himachal Expands

Indian State of Forest -2017 report has brought good news for Himachal. As per the satellite survey Himachal’s forestland increased by 393 sq kms. The total area under forest is now 3110 sq kms in this hilly state. It has become eligible for green bonus that is given to states for conservation of forest land. Himachal has performed better in comparison to neighbouring states. Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir registered less expansion of forestland. Himachal registered 0.71  percent growth whereas neighbouring states could grow only by 0.04 and 0.11 percent. Himachal Pradesh can cherish these moments as it seems that the state is likely perform more better in next report.

Himachal Slips In Health Ranking

NITI Aayog’s recent health ranking is a setback for Himachal. The state with its worse performance in the field has slipped to 5th position. Union Health Minister JP Nadda’s own state has failed in providing basic health amenities to the public as per NITI Aayog report. It seems that governments in the state whether of the BJP or Congress make promises and commitments just to get votes. Neighbouring state Punjab is at 2nd position in the ranking. Himachal can learn from Punjab in this context. There is huge shortage of doctors and other para medical staff in health institutions. The para medical staff is also below par. It is high time that authorities focus on strengthening health institutions.
