Hats off to Lieutenant Colonel Karamveer Singh, the father of Major Aditya Kumar, who had filed a petition in The Supreme Court of India against the FIR filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police against his son and other army officers accused in the Shopian firing case. And what a soothing moment was it for me and for every true Indian when the highest law of this land restricted the Jammu and Kashmir Police from taking any further coercive action in the said FIR. Also hats off to the three children of army officers, who a few days back, filed a petition with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) asking what the government had done to protect the security forces from the stone pelting and assaults by the unruly mob. In fact, both the steps are a right course of action resorted to by the Kargil war veteran and children of the army officers.

Interesting though it will be to see as to how the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir Government respond to this as they are at opposing stands on this issue, but the stay on the FIR and filing of complaint by the children is a clear message to the separatists and pro-Pak hooligans that the tolerance of Indian soldiers can’t be taken for granted any more. This is a banging slap on the faces of those shameless mentors of so called aazadi mongers, who under the garb of human rights, try to accomplish their nefarious designs against the integrity of India. It is the soldiers standing there on borders who make us have peaceful sleep at night and make our life smooth and secure in the day. We celebrate our holidays, fairs and festivals, but they don’t know when they can get a call to join back even if they are on some holidays. But a soldier, the fauji, does not complain, be it the chilling cold or scorching sun, he stands there alert and agile.

Imagine the hostile circumstances in which our soldiers have to act in Kashmir valley. On the one hand they have to face the cannons of Pak army, and on the other they are in combat with the Pak supported terrorists. Then there are these stone-pelting goons who get encouragement from some political turncoat wanglers who eat everything of this country and raise slogans like Pakistan Zindabad. Not am I saying that army men have the right to fire at individuals at every provocation. But certainly they have all human rights to save their own lives when left with no option. The videos clearly delineate how the soldiers are humiliated and assaulted. Their vehicles are smashed, they are kicked, slapped, abused and even their helmets are pulled out. If amnesty can be bestowed on stone pelters, soldiers do also have their human rights because they are also human beings. High time for stone pelters, Pak-supported goons and their double-dealer mentors to mend their ways. The soldiers in the valley deserve a big salute from countrymen, not an FIR. Salute to thee soldier!
