Himachal This Week

Various functions were organised across Himachal to celebrate International Women’s Day. The state government and other felicitated Himachali ladies who have contributed outstandingly in different fields to bring laurel for the state and country.

‘Press for Progress’

A state level function on International Women Day was organised by department of Social Justice and Empowerment and Directorate of Women and Child Development in Shimla. In his opening address, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur asserted, “Promoting women’s leadership and economic empowerment is an absolute priority of my government and the focus will be for sustainable development, through their participation and leadership in all walks of life”. This year’s campaign theme, “Press for Progress”, could not have come at a better time, especially when efforts and progress have been registered at the regional and international level towards economically strengthening women, achieving gender equality, empowering women and elevating them at all levels, he added. Chief Minister said the government was committed to respect and fulfill women’s aspirations and rights through gender equality, fair payment, non-discrimination, good working conditions and capacity building as underlined in the Vision Document of the BJP.’ Jai Ram Thakur honoured different personalities who have contributed towards different social causes and women empowerment
