Tharjoon Panchayat Will Celebrate Daughter’s Birth By Planting 11 Saplings

Jabna Chauhan, who rose to fame after becoming youngest panchayat pradhan of the country from Tharjoon panchayat in Mandi district has come up with another unique and environment friendly initiative. The Tharjoon panchayat has taken a decision that to mark the celebrations of birth of a daughter, the family will plant 11 saplings in the village and also take care of them.

Decision to plant saplings on the birth of a daughter has been taken in the Tharjoon panchayat under ‘beti bachao-van bachao aur podha lagao’ yojana. Under the scheme, the concerned family will be congratulated on the birth of a daughter under ‘meri ladli’ yojana and 11 saplings will be planted in the village.

Notably, the panchayat earlier had taken a courageous step of imposing ban on sale and consumption of liquor and tobacco products after prolonged discussions between the members of the Tharjoon panchayat and its residents.

For her untiring efforts for women empowerment and upliftment of the society, Jabna was honoured by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur with state

level award on the occasion of International Women Day. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, Himachal and Punjab government have also honoured Jabna Chouhan for her exceptional work on cleanliness programme and alcohol ban in the panchayat.

Initiative Begins From Majhar Village

The environment friendly initiative of planting 11 saplings on birth of daughter in the family was started by Jabna Chouhan from Tikam Chand’s family in Majhar village of Tharjoon panchayat. Tikam Chand’s family was congratulated by the panchayat on birth of a daughter in the family and 11 saplings were planted in the village to begin the noble work of daughter, forest and environment conservation.
