Perhaps most crucial elections due in coming months are of Gujarat assembly. It is not merely an election of 182 legislators but it has crucial factors that will impact politics of the country. First it could establish invincibility of the Modi party and continue its roller coaster advance. The BJP has won in majority of Indian states and formed government in addition to three states it could grab by clever maneuvers. And so far, it has not lost a state after Narendera Modi became Prime Minister.

The result is that BJP has control of virtually on 17 states plus Tamil Naidu and others where it has influence. Are we going to reach near Congress Mukt Bharat if these two states elections are won though Gujarat is already in BJP’s fold? The BJP and ABP poll in August this year showed party has absolute majority as estimated by opinions covered in the poll. The BJP number is in the range of 144-152 whereas Congress is rated at 26-32 The situation in Gujarat is fast changing as Congress is making herculean effort to bring a change. At present it has motley crowd of 120+.

Now it is for Modi to bring dramatic changes in the GST to simplify and give more welfare projects. The time that he got after announcement of Himachal election on November 9 has been used for RORO vehicle type many projects. He is making utmost effort to speak to people and similarly Rahul Gandhi too is trying immeasurably high inputs to achieve better results.

The situation has changed a lot after August although Pattidar agitation had taken place. But impact of the GST was not known which as the time passes is becoming really stressful for medium and small businesses. In the meantime, Congress getting active after the election of Ahmed Patel that BJP tried its best scuttle and failed, has made symbolic shift in fence sitter thinking that change of government can be imagined.

Modi too is not leaving any stone unturned. The desperate situation in which Congress was in the state is likelyto improve though the final estimate could be made once the votes arecast.

Himachal had already government on a platter but for the confusion created amongst leaders and inability of the central leadership to give full command to Virbhadra Singh which finally was done at late stage. But greater disaster was for the Congress its needless copying the BJP. It tried to follow to make its list dynasty free that it failed when BJP succeeded. Why should it fall prey to the BJP strategy as they could easily enforce it but it was not the custom in Congress?

Again if BJP has 40 star campaigner, the Congress too matching it has the same number. Some one is unwisely advising it to do tit for tat whereas it should follow its own strategy. Here it must be mentioned that a central leadership should have declared Prem Kumar Dhumal as the leader as an opinion poll showed. Both parties could perform better if the leaders were declared which the Congress did finally and reluctantly. In case of Himachal, leadership was almost axiomatic.

The Congress finally fell for the dynasty as they have candidates in progenies of Chief Minister, Health Minister and Vidhan Sabha Speaker already in politics. Why it created such a tamasha by holding these cases till the last? Final drama was played in dealing with Vidya Stokes, a 90 years old leader who wanted to retire but suggested a substitute. Considering her services to the party at this age, the leadership should have accepted it. But it did not meet the graceful response and she came back to fight. The Congress faced such flip flops and it is likely to damage the party and its performance.

Bus Stand

First Passenger: Why a disgruntled Congressman says he paid a bribeof Rs. 25000 for ticket but did not get it?

Second Passenger: He is perhaps talking of Form fee and such candidates want tickets!
