Mohinder SinghArts is a mirror of civilisation and culture of any society. Research of thousands year old remnants reveals social, cultural and scientific richness of society of that time. Arts in present era has witnessed basic changes in technical style and definition, but no modern technique has been able to replace drawings. No doubt much improvement has occurred in colours and painting material but the style of hand made painting of drawing is still centuries old. Painters like M.F. Hussain gave commercial form to arts, but it faced apathy at government level.

This apathy of the government machinery towards arts field hurts somewhere. Both society and government failed to give artists the position that other professions enjoy today. The condition of artists, painters employed in government units is pathetic. Even an uneducated person person gets promoted to a honourable level during his service period, but artists despite high commercial qualification retire at the same post. Even the posts of artists in government units have reduced to nominal numbers now. Teachers of arts subjects in schools are also grappling with similar problems. Teachers, workers of arts subjects are handed over responsibility of other works, as if there is no importance of their subject. Drawing subject has been reduced to painting competition only.

Art had a special importance and place in human life. It is the effective tool with an immaculate capability to grow emotions in human heart, mould nature, and give direction to thought and interest. Artists had an honour of obtaining position up to the level of cabinet minister during Mughal ruler Jahangir period. But during present times, they have become a laughable stock. No such platforms were created for artists where public could have a glimpse of artists work.

The government instead should have museum in every department that displays historical information and developments made in that department field during period of time. Able artists should be hired for artistic display in these museums. Besides this similar exhibition places should be constructed for social working too. Drawing subject should be given equal importance alike other subjects if we want to maintain the importance of arts in future too. Arts is one subject that does not faces much unemployment in private sector as compared to other subjects. Artists can earn livelihood on the basis of technical ability, but efforts should be pour in to provide honour to artists in society.
